What Is POE?

POE is a term used in relation to IP CCTV systems and refers to ‘Power Over Ethernet’. This is a system that passes electrical power as well as data on an Ethernet cable. This bundling together of electricity and data removes the need for a separate power source, reduces the number of cables needed and also allows you to connect more cameras to your NVR (Network Video Recorder). If you were to use a similar amount of cameras in an analogue setup this would require you to connect additional DVRs. This would make the system more complex and more difficult to set up.
