Virgin Trains deny toilet CCTV

Virgin Trains have been accused of installing CCTV in their train’s toilets – however it seems that a conductor had accidentally informed everyone that after vandalism in the toilet the culprit would be identified by CCTV images (passengers jumping to the conclusion the toilets were somehow secretly recording their toilet activities). Passengers took to Twitter in outrage – but Virgin have repeatedly denied using CCTV to monitor passengers toilet activities.

All Virgin services use CCTV to keep an eye on their trains and customers – however no cameras are used in the toilets.

Passenger Alistair Sloan stated: ‘Why do you even need cameras in the toilets? Gross invasion of privacy. Does the [Information Commissioner’s Office] know about the location of these cameras?’

With the current high tension over privacy and CCTV it seems these passengers took the announcement the wrong way.
