Top Ten Tips

As a general guide to purchasing the most economical type of CCTV equipment, taking into consideration your personal requirements, the following may be helpful.

First of all, decide on your budget. How much can you afford? How much do you realistically need to spend in order to have an effective system? Is it worth it?

Secondly, what you want to monitor? It may be that you just want to capture faces. On the other hand, maybe you want to see the entire person or groups of people. Maybe even crowds. Or is it goods and commodities you wish to focus on?

Do you need interior or exterior cameras? Maybe even both.

How many cameras do you need? It may be only one, or a couple. Maybe three. As many as ten, or, if you have a very wide area to cover, even more than that.

Black and white or colour? For low lighting conditions you would be wise to consider a black and white CCTV camera. Colour is best used inside with good lighting conditions.

Which type of camera? CCD cameras produce a clearer sharper picture but are more expensive than CMOS. Do you go for quality or the less expensive option?

Take into account the camera’s capability to work in low lighting conditions. Check the specifications. Light levels are measured in LUX and the lower the number the less light it will take to reproduce a clear image.

If you need sharp, quality images don’t fudge the issue; go for a higher resolution camera.
Consider your image storage. DVTs(digital video recorders) are the best option and are relatively inexpensive.

Finally, although it may be an obvious statement, do make sure that you select a monitor that is compatible with the resolution of your CCTV camera system.

There are so many options that it can be quite difficult selecting the system that is right for you. However, if you check out the points listed above it should make life considerably easier for you in this respect. If in doubt it is always helpful to consult someone who has had experience of the type of system you are seeking to install.
