School CCTV a success at stopping parking problems

A CCTV camera has been installed to stop people parking illegally outside a school in Rhyl, North Wales.

The idea is for is the camera to be monitored by the headteacher of the school, and if she is concerned that parents are making it unsafe for children, she will pass on the footage to the police who will take up the matter.

Many parents feel it is a good idea, especially if it keeps children safe; but others have said that they feel it is a pointless measure and a waste of money. They also question that the headteacher has sufficient time to be able to monitor the footage constantly, so people will simply carry on parking as they do and continue to get away with it.

The school bought the camera themselves after they thought parents parking on zig-zag lines and yellow lines were making it extremely dangerous for children trying to cross the road. Only time will tell if the camera does prove to be the deterrent it was designed to be.
