Police in Surrey wear body cameras
CCTV is known to help curb anti social behaviour and bring people who are causing a nuisance to justice.
A Surrey police force has also noticed the impact that CCTV can have on reducing bad behaviour numbers, and because of this has announced plans for CCTV cameras to be worn by its officers. This would see police officers wearing body CCTV cameras in a bid to get clear images of people being rude and offensive and being unruly in and around the area.
The pilot scheme will be taking place in Reigate and Banstead and the cameras will be worn by neighbourhood policing teams. The cameras will be fitted to an officer’s uniform with a clip, or, if preferred, can be hand held. The devices, as well as recording video, will also process audio and will boast a 120 degree field of vision.
Some of these cameras are already being used by police on the beat in the area and have so far proved successful. If positive results carry on being generated, it is expected that more cameras will be rolled out and given to officers over time.
