HD CCTV receiving mixed views…

Hi-Tech CCTV cameras could soon become the norm in public places, with some of them now capable of recognising faces in a crowd from half a mile away.

Even though many anti CCTV campaigners believe that this would lead to an even bigger sway towards a Big Brother society, many others, including the Home Office, believe the extremely sophisticated HD cameras will help protect our society even more.

The cameras are clearer than the surveillance systems currently in operation and if installed in the public domain will offer a much more sophisticated image. It is also known that they will benefit police and local authorities more because they are capable of storing more footage and for a longer period of time – a perfect combination in terms of monitoring behaviour.

According to recent reports, surveillance cameras now offer up to 29 megapixels, surpassing many cameras used by professional photographers.

These high definition cameras will slowly start making their way into the public domain within the coming year and then it is believed that they will completely replace old style CCTV within the next few years.
