Extra CCTV needed for Leeds club to get licensing permission

West Yorkshire Police have stepped into a planning row with a Leeds dancing club, asking for more CCTV to be installed as part of the licensing application.

Lap dancing clubs are up against strong views in most cities in the UK – Leeds wants to limit such clubs to just 4, which is causing major issues as there are currently 7 operating in the city.

Security in these clubs is critical – and the Police have requested extra CCTV cameras to cover visitors to help protect both staff and property alike.

A panel of the licensing sub-committee commented: “the number of sex establishments, or of sex establishments of a particular kind, in the relevant locality at the time the application is made is equal to or exceeds the number which the authority consider is appropriate for that locality”.

While the planning application for expansion has been granted, the license has not been extended, hence the problem. The concerns are from both Police and local residents.
