Clumsy iPhone thief caught on London Tube CCTV

It was just like watching Keystone Cops capers as a sneak thief ran off after stealing an iPhone on a London train.

The surprised victim recovered her wits sufficiently to give chase, but unfortunately the victim bumped into a pole as she did so, while the thief hit his head on a stair banister as he made his hasty getaway.

CCTV cameras caught the action, including the moment Narinder Singh snatched the phone out of the commuter’s hand before dashing off the train.

There was no escape for the sneak thief, however. Thanks to the CCTV footage he was later identified, arrested, and was this week jailed for 14 months after pleading guilty to the offence at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

UndergroundSingh, of no fixed abode, who took the phone as the train passed through Seven Kings Station at about 10.40pm on December 10, will also be deported back to India after serving his sentence.

After the CCTV images were shown in court, Judge Louise Kamill ordered for them to be released to the general public so that it could serve as a warning to passengers to protect their belongings while travelling.

Detective Constable Gary Wildman said: “Although during interview Singh gave no comment, the overwhelming evidence, including blood left at the bottom of the stairs, gave him no other option but to plead guilty to the offence.”
